The Special Education Minor provides undergraduate students with coursework on instructional practices to support the achievement of students with special education needs.
Important update: March 3, 2008
We have begun the process of requesting substantial changes with the Special Education Minor. These changes will allow greater flexibility for students with respect to scheduling, and allow the SPLED minor to accept a greater number of interested students. Please note, the process of formal approval for the requested changes to the SPLED minor may take a substantial period of time. While the proposed changes are under review, we will submit petitions on an individual basis for the use of selected special education courses to count towards the minor, so that students can continue to participate in the SPLED minor while the changes are under review.

Requirements for the Minor
A total of 18 credits in special education coursework is required for the minor.
The total number of credits required for this minor is 27 crs., and includes the following prerequisites: Educational Psychology 14 (3), Educational Theory and Policy 115 (3), Math 200 (3).
- SPLED 400 can be taken at a time of the student's choosing (depending upon course availability)

Print a copy of the "Application for Special Education Minor" available at the bottom of this page
Print a copy of the "Entrance to Minor" form available at the bottom of this page
Complete the forms (please note that you need the signature of the Major Advisor on the Entrance to Minor form) and make an appointment to speak with

Please bring the completed forms and a copy of a recent undergraduate audit to this meeting. Admission to classes is contingent upon the permission of the Special Education Minor Advisor and course availablity.
After Dr. McNaughton has confirmed your admission into the minor, you will be given permission to register for Special Education coursework with the Special Education Program Secretary (Laura Zimmerman, 125 CEDAR, LAZ6@PSU.EDU).
