Coefficient of Variation

The coefficient of variation is simply the standard deviation of a variable divided by the mean of the variable. Because variances and standard deviations are used to measure error, and because these values are sensitive to the absolute scale of the variable, coefficients of variation are often reported. Coefficients of variation have the influence of the overall magnitude of the data removed. For further information see page 24 in Judd and McClelland.
